Mountain Lion Overlay Cuff by Thomas & Rosita Singer

This sterling silver cuff is the work of Thomas and Rosita Singer, respected Navajo  silversmiths whose overlay technique represents one of the most demanding and distinctive traditions in American Southwest jewelry. The center band depicts mountain lions — the apex predator of the Southwest — rendered in motion across the cuff in the classic Hopi overlay method: two layers of sterling silver, the top layer cut and shaped by hand, then fused to the base layer and oxidized to create the dramatic dark contrast that makes the imagery leap from the surface.

The mountain lion — known in Hopi tradition as a symbol of power, guardianship, and the hunt — makes this not just a beautiful object, but a meaningful one.
